Maryland law allows patients to have direct access to a licensed acupuncturist without a physician’s referral. Direct access legislation in Maryland, similar to how it applies to physical specialists, removes the mandatory requirement for a doctor’s referral to receive evaluation and treatment from an acupuncturist.
